Aryn and Katie playing on the 8th grade St. Ann Middle School team.

St. Ann had a very young 8th grade team this year - four 8th grade players (including Aryn), four 7th grade players (including Katie) and two 6th grade players.  But they still brought home a second place finish at an El Tejon Tournament back in September and finished in third at this weekends Middle School Championship Tournament at Cerro Coso Community College.

The USA National Team held a scrimmage in Irvine on Saturday.  It is a three hour drive from Ridgecrest.  But for the few of us that made that trip - it was well worth it.

We got to watch a couple hours of fantastic volleyball.  We got to meet most of the players and coaches.  It was a great way to spend a Saturday.

Cynthia Barboza is quoted in the posting just below this one. She is a great player who obviously gets it…

“Volleyball is the ultimate team sport, you only get one contact before you have to give the ball off to a team mate,”

“It’s not about six people and a ball, it’s about the team coming together, working together,”

“It’s the synergy of the group that eventually wins the match not just the all-stars you have lined up there,”

“Every player that plays in the USA gym is a phenomenal player,”

“There isn’t a player that puts on the USA jersey that doesn’t deserve it and can’t beat any team in the world when they have it on.”

Quotes from Cynthia Barboza - USA Volleyball Captain at the Pan-Am Games
